Water pours out of a faucet into a bathtub, steaming up the tiny bathroom. The water, is boiling hot…

Yellow paint peels off the ceiling and the walls, while drops hang, swollen, waiting to drip. Palm sized chunks and long strips of wet, torn paint, like tree trunks, they peek through the steam.  A rainforest in the distance…

Voices can be heard, screaming, a man, he is angry. It gets louder then fades back into the sound of running water. A woman can be heard, screaming…

“Please!!”

The bathroom door flies open and a woman holding a little girl rushes in…

She sits on the toilet seat, and shuts the water off.  She puts the little girl on the floor beside her, and cries into her hands. Older now, dry, and always holding her face it seems…

The little girl’s hands however, wave around in the steam. She’s so young, so small, still in diapers in fact. But she takes notice of her ability to change the world, right before her eyes.

The door flies open again, and the woman is dragged out by her hair. Kicking, squealing, and holding her hands over his, the woman slithers out.

Love…

The little girl stands in her diaper, in the warm fog, and listens…

Too young to know the cracks and thuds are the sounds of her mother being beaten, she tends to the walls, to the rainforest, and peels...

The cracks, and screams, a familiar soundtrack. A landscape that was now echoing in the tiny bathroom.

The water, the sound of the water, the warm air…

The little one reaches toward the wall, and picks at the paint. She pulls a strip, slowly, feeling the tear, slowly, feeling, the, tear…

Suddenly, silence.

She turns away from the forest, and sits down on the toilet seat, waiting.

The front door slams closed, she knows that sound.  And she can hear her mother whimpering.

Down the hallway, her mother lays on the carpet, bent. The woman sees the child and whispers…

“I just want to die”

Too tiny to understand, too tiny to understand…

Her mother crawls towards her, kisses her on the lips, and whispers.

“I’m Sorry”

The woman takes the little girl by the hand and leads her back into the bathroom. She takes her diaper off, and without thinking, she drops the little girl into the boiling hot water.

Black.
